Merel Maria Meessen
DNYS Academie leraar
Merel Maria Meessen works at the intersection of yoga, breathwork, nervous system awareness and plant medicine. With over fifteen years of personal experience working with psilocybin truffles, she has been guiding ceremonies since 2020, including high-dose truffle ceremonies as well as mini-dosing and Yin-based ceremonies at De Nieuwe Yogaschool. Music and singing are a natural part of her work, supporting depth, presence and connection.
As a yoga teacher and breathwork guide, Merel has a deep interest in the nervous system as an instrument for inner growth and transformation. Her sessions invite participants to explore the healing potential of breath, embodied awareness and self-compassion, always within a carefully held and attuned space.
Merel’s path began in her teens through the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda and the Bhagavad Gita. She was initiated into Kriya Yoga in the lineage of Yogananda in her early twenties and has maintained a dedicated meditation practice ever since. After experiencing burnout and a chronic hip injury, she discovered the restorative and therapeutic power of Yin Yoga, which became a turning point in her personal healing journey.
She later trained extensively in Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga and Conscious Connected Breathing, and deepened her work through many years of study in Nonviolent Communication (NVC). This body-based compassion practice forms a foundation for her teaching, supporting openness, emotional awareness and respectful self-inquiry.
Across all her work, Merel is devoted to creating safe, sacred and grounded spaces where people can reconnect with themselves, cultivate awareness and allow life to unfold with greater ease and authenticity.
