Protocol Yin & Vinyasa Teacher Training
JOHAN NOORLOOS TEACHER TRAINING
PROTOCOL Vinyasa – Amsterdam
ATTENDANCE AND ABSENCE POLICY
– If you will be missing (part of) a class day, please let us know via email.
– Please make sure to arrive at the studio on time.
– If you have missed more than 3 workshops of the training, the practical exam will be postponed. The completion of your training will then be arranged in consultation with the Teacher Training Secretariat.
– Postponing a theory or practical exam for any reason is always possible. This, too, is arranged in consultation with the Teacher Training Secretariat.
WORKSHOPS YOU MISSED
You are expected to keep all scheduled class days free and to be present. For all teacher training programs, workshops can’t be made up by following the class days of other groups. This is due to the instructor’s one-on-one approach, the close-knit group dynamic that often develops, and to ensure safety within the groups. It is important to catch up on missed material by copying notes from fellow students and reviewing any accompanying videos on the video platform.
ATTENDING AND OBSERVING CLASSES
During the Vinyasa teacher training, you can attend 7 classes at De nieuwe yogaschool. These classes are not mandatory, but we highly recommend them. You can book these classes (and cancel them if necessary) via the website (denieuweyogaschool.nl). These
classes are only valid for the duration of your training.
YOGA CLASSES
Please arrive at the studio on time. If you happen to be a little late, please wait until the meditation is over. It is important not to eat for at least one hour before the physical yoga practice. If your blood sugar drops too low, eat something light, such as a banana or some yogurt. It is recommended that you eat your last meal at least two hours before class. Step onto the mat having showered and wearing clean clothes. Do not wear strong deodorant and/or aftershave during class.
BOOK PRESENTATION
The class will be divided into small groups. Everyone’s homework is to have read the book before the book presentation takes place. A small group prepares the book discussion. Each person has a maximum of 10 minutes to share their perspective on the book: what, or which part, inspired you the most? Could you also relate this to yourself as a yoga practitioner and as a future teacher?
REPORTS (HOMEWORK)
Personal Development Report:
During the program, you will write an essay about your personal development as a yoga practitioner
and future teacher. Reflect on the growth you have experienced both on and off the yoga mat
and/or on the significance of yoga in your life at this moment. The guideline is a maximum of one A4 page.
PEER REVIEW
During each teacher training, students are divided into groups for a peer review session. These sessions require no preparation. In small groups, participants discuss their progress and development. It is helpful to learn, as a group, to reflect on one’s own growth, both as a yoga practitioner and as a future teacher. There will also always be an opportunity to discuss any “bumps in the road” and to support one another in navigating them.
SKILLS
During the teacher training, it is very important to practice teaching regularly. This does not mean pretending to be a teacher. It means allowing yourself to experiment, varying how you give instructions, use your voice, demonstrate poses, and offer verbal corrections. In this way, you learn to master the craft of teaching yoga. At the beginning of the program, students form a practice group in which you train yourselves and each other as future teachers in the craft of teaching. This method of “practicing teaching” is an assignment that you systematically integrate throughout the program. To be able to “practice teaching,” put together a yoga class with people you feel comfortable with, such as friends, colleagues, or family members. Above all, don’t make the group too large (max 3 people). Make it clear that you are the student who is learning something; they are there primarily for you.
PRACTICAL TRAINING DAYS
It is also beneficial to practice the craft of teaching yoga with your fellow students. Students can provide each other with more specific feedback. During the practical training days, you will practice these important skills together, under the guidance of your mentor. Your mentor will also be present during the practical exam to reflect on each person’s growth and development.
EXAMINATION
Practical Exam
The course concludes with a practical exam. For this, the class is divided into groups of three. As a group of three, you will prepare a lesson consisting of an opening, middle, and closing segment, each lasting 20 minutes (for a total of 60 minutes). Fifteen minutes before your exam, you will be told who is responsible for which part of the lesson. You will teach this lesson to the rest of the group. One day after the final exam, you will be notified whether you have passed. Further details regarding this exam will become clear as the course progresses.
Retake Exam
If you do not pass your theory or practical exam, you may retake it within six months. The teacher training team will, to the extent possible, support students in their preparation and create opportunities for them to practice and study with other students. There are no additional costs associated with this.
PROGRAM AND ACCREDITATION
The Johan Noorloos Teacher Training program at De Nieuwe Yogaschool consists of two comprehensive courses: Vinyasa (200 hours) and Yin (200 hours). Both are certified by the Yoga Alliance. If you wish to register with the Yoga Alliance, you can do so yourself via:
