Hands-on Assisting: The craft of letting the student experience their full potential
Through hands on assists, we have the opportunity to convey information clearly and directly, without words. Touch accelerates the process. It can provide directional cues, help to identify the processes in the body and, in doing so, help release unconscious resistance or tightness, increase awareness and even help to diminish pain.
Giving hands-on assists is truly an art form. They are never static; instead, they are a fluid dance of body, breath, and energy. Each assist is rooted in continuous awareness and a deep, intuitive connection between teacher and student.
Deepen your knowledge to teach with confidence
Develop the art of using a verbal assists combined with a physical adjustments to impact the learning and retention of your students. This training is designed to empower your teaching and empower your students.
Offer teachings to guide your students into greater stability and ease in their asana
Develop potent teaching skills that can help your students experience freedom, stability, and strength in their poses. Learn modifications for hands-on assists that apply to different students’ levels of experience as well as different body types.
Deepen your knowledge of alignment and anatomy, to assist with safety and integrity and touch with confidence while understanding how to address common postural habits and misalignments in yoga poses. Finally, teach your students how to retrain movements for long-term joint health.
You’ll practice with multiple poses of each Asana group and continue to learn how to assist more advanced poses.
In this new 2-day training we will practice:
- Assisting multiple poses of all Asana groups for students with different levels of experience.
- Hands on assists in more advanced poses like deep twists, binds and balances.
- Modifications of assisting for injured students.
- Recognizing and assisting different body types.
- Working with different props to give the most beneficial assist.
- The step-by-step principles of assisting to give each student the most suitable assist.
- Assisting in a physical and energetic flow.
- Philosophy of assisting, the role of awareness, presence & breath.
- The ethics of touch and how to make touch safe.
- Non-verbal communication.
- Applicable Alignment knowledge for the joints, muscles and tendon functions.
- “In class private”: giving assists throughout a complete class.
- Practicing together to develop advanced skills for the magic touch.
- Besides the doing: reflect on the exchange of giving and receiving an assist.
This study will help you feel confident in the beautiful craft of assisting, so you can bring out the best in your students! This training is held in English.
