Getting started with yoga
It's so nice that you're here.
We understand that starting yoga can feel overwhelming – with so many styles, classes, and ways of practicing. And it is perfectly normal if you don't yet know what suits you.
You've come to the right place. Discover the different classes, where to start, and what suits you — whether you come to the studio or prefer practicing online at home. This way, you step onto your yoga mat with confidence.
Where do you want to do yoga?
First, ask yourself where you feel comfortable. Do you enjoy moving together in the studio and experiencing the energy of a group? Or would you rather start at home, in your own familiar surroundings? At De Nieuwe Yogaschool You can try both.
Start with a calm flow
Now that you know where you want to practice, you can discover which class suits you. Do you want to move actively at a gentle pace? Then these flows are a great start. You move fluidly from posture to posture to the rhythm of your breath.
Prefer to start even softer?
In addition to the gentle flows, you can also choose classes where you move less and take more time for silence and relaxation. You stay in a pose longer or do gentle exercises, paying attention to your breath and what you feel. Discover the gentler side of yoga below.
Your body as a starting point
Starting yoga begins with yourself: how do you feel and what do you need? Even if yoga appeals to you, a different way of moving or a class with more calm might suit you better right now. For example, if you have back problems, low energy, or are recovering from illness. That is why you will find at De Nieuwe Yogaschool also other ways to move gently, get stronger, or relax. Below you will find a number of styles from our range that are suitable for beginners.
At Pilates You work on strength and stability, paying attention to your posture and how you move. You strengthen your abdominal, back, and pelvic muscles and keep your body flexible. This can provide support during daily movements, such as bending and lifting. A classic Pilates class has a calm pace and can also be enjoyable if you start later in life. Power Pilates is more intensive.

At Tai Chi Work on your balance with calm, controlled movements. This is great if you start later in life, but also serves as a supplement to intensive sports. You practice mindfully and take time to relax.
At Restorative yoga Take your time to recover when you have given a lot physically or mentally. Pillows, blankets, and blocks support your body so you can rest without exertion. This can help release tension and recharge, especially when you have low energy.
At Healing yoga You do gentle movements, breathing exercises, and meditation. A Healing class gives you time to notice tension and emotions, relax, and better feel what you need. It is great if you are often stuck in your head, going through a busy period, or recovering from burnout or illness. You do not need any yoga experience.
