After Savasana (Corpse Pose), we always turn onto our right side. But why?
We turn on our right side instead of our left because our heart is on the left side of our body. This puts slightly less weight on the organs on the right. The blood can then be pumped more easily through the body under the influence of gravity on your right side, which ensures a faster recovery of your blood pressure.
“When you lie on your right side, the breath becomes more present on your left side, so this side provides the yin qualities.”
Moreover, you roll onto your right side because you usually want to stay calm and cool down after your yoga class. The left side is the yin side of the body, also known as the "moon/negative/feminine side." When you lie on your right side, your breath becomes more present on your left side, which is why this side provides the yin qualities.
Let's rrrrrroll!
Note! There is one exception. If you're pregnant, it's generally recommended to lie on your left side, due to the position of the placenta and your heart, which provides better blood circulation to the baby on that side.
