CELEBRATE LIGHT AND LIFE
Summer solstice yin yoga workshop
The summer solstice is the longest day of the year with the most amount of light and life energy shining on us. It represents the first day of summer as well as International Yoga Day and it is a favourable time to honour the sun and allow its solar energy to support and nourish us.
The underlying spirit of summer is one of purification, abundance and vibrancy. In summer the earth becomes radiant as everything grows under the heat and light of the sun. Because the sun is the life giving force which regulates our biological system, our mood and energy are also heightened at this time. Therefore the solstice is a supercharged time of the year which makes it an ideal time for creating positive intentions and letting go of negativity.
In this yin yoga workshop we will honour the sun, our ultimate source of nourishment. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine summer is associated with the element of fire so we will invite fire into our lives to purify the body and mind, removing impurities and obstacles so we can reconnect with our most radiant self.
We will focus on yin yoga poses to stimulate the heart and small intestine meridians (energy lines). When balanced these meridians coordinate all the activities in the body on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level. We will practice a purifying fire meditation to help burn away that which doesn’t serve us anymore. We will set new intentions to help us bring in abundance and we will also practice a pranayama (breath exercise) to balance the fire energy.
